Our History/Amalgamation
Wonthaggi Country Club brings together over a century of local tradition into one welcoming, future-focused destination.
Formed through the merger of The Wonthaggi Club (est. 1911) and Wonthaggi Golf Club (est. 1925), the Country Club exists to serve the community through sport, hospitality, entertainment and connection.
We’re working towards a purpose-built Country Club on the golf course site, offering a new benchmark for regional facilities while maintaining the grassroots spirit that built each original venue.
The Wonthaggi Club
Founded during the town’s coal mining boom, The Wonthaggi Club was established as an alternative to the union-run social institutions. Over time, it became a cornerstone of the local community, offering a welcoming place for members to meet, relax and celebrate. Known for its bar, billiards, and later its entertainment and hospitality offering, the club has supported generations of locals.

Wonthaggi Golf Club
Since 1925, the Wonthaggi Golf Club has offered a scenic, community-focused golf course in the heart of town. Set on 103 acres of undulating land, it’s well known for its relaxed feel, generous layout and iconic kangaroo tours. The club has been proudly volunteer-supported and remains a key part of Wonthaggi’s sporting culture.

The Wonthaggi Country Club operates under a shared constitution with a unified board elected by voting members.
The board is supported by committees covering golf, clubhouse operations, audit and risk, and finance.

Bistro Hours:
- Lunch: 12pm – 2pm
- Dinner: 5:30pm – 8pm
- Outside these times, the all day menu is available in the Stage 1 Bar and Lounge
- The kitchen is open 12-8pm daily with our ‘all day’ menu in our Stage 1 bar area.
We strongly recommend reserving a table for all bistro bookings.
